It can be!
My name is CJ Hardy. My first "real" job after I went to school for computers was network monitoring and troubleshooting on a multimillion dollar phone and DSL network. It was high tech, and high stress. And I really hated it!
What I liked doing was "playing" with my own and friends computers, building gaming towers, tweaking cell phones, troubleshooting laptops, making WiFi & home networks work properly... Trying to understand and optimize every annoying, finicky detail of the tech, to make people happy.
So... While I'm still truly geeky about all the gadgets, it turns out that (unlike many Geeks) what's most fulfilling to me is helping people with technology. I'm constantly experimenting with new hardware and software and services to find the best designed, the most user friendly, etc.
I know how to answer when someone asks "what's the best way to do this?"
And it's well-known, I do love me some Google! Their communications, sharing and organizational tools are among the finest on the planet. Teaching people how the latest and best tools can transform their workflow - and their life - is the most rewarding part of my job.
My business was originally called HouseCall-Computing. I opened it in July of 2002. Then one day I taught a client a little trick, and she said "Damn, that was incredibly simple! Friggin' thing's been bugging me every day for years, and you fixed it in 10 seconds!"
So... I changed the name. :)
I really love to see someone relax and smile when they "get it". That moment when they see that whatever is frustrating them can actually be easy - that's pure gold to me. So... that's what I do. For about 15 years now.
